The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect

This morning I received an error I haven’t seen before when trying to open the console of a VM in our ESXi 5.5 environment…. “The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect.

VMRC Console Disconnected Error

There are two ways to fix this. The easy way is to reboot your computer If you would want to avoid a reboot you can do the following:

vSphere Client error "The VMRC console has disconnected attempting to reconnect"

has anyone seen the error «The VMRC console has disconnected attempting to reconnect.» when using vSphere 5.0, and know how to correct it?

I have lost connection to my host, then when I re-login with vSphere everything seems fine, except I cannot view the console on any VM. obviously not fine.

Killing those processes didn’t work for me.

I had to install an updated version of vSphere Client, to be more specific, the 5.0.0-913577 build.

Check for the vmware-vmrc.exe processes and kill them. Sometimes they don’t close properly, even when the client is closed.

I would try this first, and if you are still having issues, let us know!

Thanks and nice suggestion Michael!

I tried everything here and elsewhere to no avail.

Eventually I found that removing Hyper-V role (W2K8 R2) fixed the problem.

Thanks Heitor! Broke my client after installing Visual Studio Pro 2015. Nothing else worked. Uninstalled the client that came from my vCenter server and installed the 5.0.0-913577 build and life is good.

Recently had this issue on Windows 8. Installing the build mentioned fixed it.

Thanks, that fixed it for me too. There was a later update for me to try by this time though, so I’ve installed 5.0.0-1300600 and now it is working again.

BravesBm Where did you download the 5.0.0-1300600?

I am suffering this problem in win10 as well, tried to download the sphere client 5.0 mentioned in this thread but it disallowed me to download. Anyone can post a link for downloading? Big thanks.

Killing the processes worked for me

Hi there!
I thought I’d let you know you’ve just made my day 🙂
I’ve been through hundreds of posts related to the damn «vmrc disconnected» issue for ages and, once in a while, I take sometime to find out if someone found a solution.
Should anyone else need to update, the link for the whole set of versions available is

Hopefully one of you has come across this before. I have a customer with two PCs that scan to folder. One cannot seem to get the scans while the other works completely fine. The one with the problem is the main computer they use. I actually set up the.

I have a GPO that runs a .bat file which installs a program at startup. And this works perfectly fine. As long as the user restarts their computers. The problem is that, I need to find a way to deploy this without having to restart the computer. I kno.

Рассмотрим что делать если в ходе работы с VMware vSphere Client стало появляться сообщение The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect.

The VMRC console has disconnected…attempting to reconnect

Одной из причин является «повисший» процесс vmware-vmrc.exe.

Процесс vmware-vmrc.exeПроцесс

После снятия этого процесса повторно загружаем клиент и виртуальные машины снова нам подвластны.

VMRC console has disconnected . I'm tired of uninstalling and re-installing the entire client

Don’t have vCenter Server so we administer ESXi 6 hosts via the vSphere client.

Often from some Windows machines we can’t get to the VM consoles due to the error in the console window reading:

«The VMRC console has disconnected . attempting to reconnect.»

Occasionally re-starting vSphere client corrects it, if that won’t do it then re-booting the windows machine running the client will, if that won’t do it then uninstalling and re-installing the client works.

Uninstalling and re-installing takes a long time and I’d much prefer to fix it vs. fight it.

Anybody get to the bottom of this? Is it an AV or Windows firewall issue, if so why would it be intermittent?

The answer for me was related to the IE plugin. I found a reference here: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/456132 that said to replace the C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VMware\VMware Remote Console Plug-in 5.5\Internet Explorer directory with a copy from a system with normal VMRC behavior. A similar clue was to be sure that IE could reach the host. I realized that IE may never have been launched after recent windows updates so I started up IE (I don’t otherwise use IE) and it wanted me to buy off on standard security rules which I did and then I directed it at the hosts IP and bought off the https warning which took me to the hosts welcome webpage. At this point I opened vsphere client, connected to the host as normal only now the Consoles all work and no VMRC erros have occurred. To be clear I never replaced the plugin directory, it was replaced automatically each time I re-installed. All I did was touch IE and visit the hosts page to get consoles working again!
