How to use document photo scanner?

After uploading document photo, OnlineCamScanner automatically detects the document corners in photo.
Adjust the corners which are not properly detected by moving circle presents on image.

To rotate document photo click on rotate button.

To Adjust brightness contrast for further improvement click on adjust. Adjustments can be done lazyer also, but making minor improvemenst improves scanning results.

To see document clearly click on zoom button to zoom in and out. Use blue color scroll bars to scroll image.

If photo contains only document page and if you do not want to crop document photo click on fit button. To unfit click it again.

After all adjustment click on crop button.

Step 3: Further improvements, Page setup, rearrange scanned pages and Download

After cropping, Document photo is scanned and more options are provided to scan multiple document photos and rearrange pages, highlight text, page setup etc.

To add more pages in document for scanning press Add button.

To delete page from document click on delete, It will delete current selected page.

Zoom is useful to see document clearly when using highlighter, eraser, pen tools.

To change scan effect click on effect button and selec effect. Effects are applied to only selected page. Super scan effect is default and applied to all documents.

To highlight and remove text from scanned document, click on tools menu.

1. Use highlghter tool to highlight text in document.
2. Use pen tool to draw on the document.
3. four color selection is available for highlighter and pen.
4. Size selections applied to highligter, pen, eraser and repaint tool.
5. To remove text from document image, select erase tool.
6. To get back removed, highighted text to original click on repaint tool.

click on page setup button to setup the output pdf page size, layout and margins.

To change page sequence just drag the sidebar preview images.

Click on download button to download scanned document. Three download options are present. JPG, PNG and PDF. JPG and PNG will download current selected scanned page in image format. Pdf download will download all scanned document pages and applies

Some bigger companies still require wet signatures on documents, which was a source of constant hassle for me during recent years. My workflow was:

• Receive email with the PDF document
• Download the document
• Print the document on my old friend HP Laserjet 1020
• Sign the document by hand, using a pen
• Scan the document (usually via my phone camera and Google Drive app)

This is a fine routine to go through once a month, but once I started doing it every week I realized I can save a lot of effort and paper here by doing this task in the cloud.

The difference between signing PDF «electronically» and «digitally»

In this writeup, I will go through the problem of signing PDF electronically, which technically is «put an image of handwritten signature to the document» and not «digitally» (which is: using real cryptography and special routine of attaching private signing key to the document).

Signing the document in Adobe Reader

Attaching transparent PNG to the PDF document is a pretty solved task, this is a no-brainer — you can do it via Adobe Reader, right?

So, I have inserted my high-quality PNG signature into the PDF in Adobe Reader, «printed» it to PDF via standard MacOS printer dialog, sent this PDF file to the requester via email, and called it a day.

But, the company quickly replied that this document is not good for them. It turned out Adobe Reader does not even rasterize text of PDF document so it is super easy to detect that this PDF was «signed» electronically. (Which is totally fine for most of companies, but not for this company.)

Since this was not a one-time thing, and I had to do it all the time, I had to move to the next approach.

Applying scanner effect: top 4 tools

The resulting file can be processed via cloud services. This can also be done on your own computer via a simple Imagick command which converts each PDF page to image and then applies some noise, artifacts, and rotation, and then compiles the result back to PDF. There are also a number of Youtube tutorials how you can achieve this in Photoshop and GIMP (which might give you best quality, but probably is a viable route only if you don’t have printer nearby, and you need to do it once in a year). If you prefer the cloud service – read on.

I’ve tested the tools from Google top 5 results:

This one could not process my 11 page file (since it only allows 10 pages max) and the quality was mediocre for my smaller test file:

I think the quality is bearable, but for my use case it is too low. The major issue was that scanyourpdf.com made first page of my test file appear as blank page in the produced pdf file, which was weird — no other tools did that. (I’ve re-run the test a few days later and can confirm this still happens to my test file — so, the screenshot above is the second page of the document — first one is completely blank, with artifacts appended by scanyourpdf.com)

This one requires to sign up to get all pages of produced file, and only allows to download 1 page without registration.

The quality was pretty mediocre, and the service attaches a weird dark background around the document which I think is too much.

I have tested PDFDoctor utility several times to make sure this is not a mistake. All settings are on «medium» and «black&white». The quality of the produced result is just unbearable — too noisy.

OakPdf (https://oakpdf.com) (8 of 10)

Okay, here is the disclaimer: I am the author of OakPdf. I had to build it to solve my own real pain, after I have tested all the tools available on the market.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time tuning various parameters of PDF processing script so that the quality of OakPdf scanner effect got noticeably better compared to other tools – while it looks like a real scanner, and appends some gentle noise and rotation, it still does not destroy the quality of text. The best way to see these details, which are not obvious on the screenshot above, is to compare original pdf and the same pdf with scanner effect applied. The only downside is that it takes more time and server resources to get such result (for 12 page document, this may take around 30-40 seconds).

The best thing about OakPdf is that it not just allows to apply the scanner effect, this is a full fledged cloud utility to attach the signature image (or, draw the signature with your mouse or trackpad) to the PDF, as well. This way I got rid of Adobe Reader and do everything from signing to «scanning» in a single tool.

The roadmap for OakPdf includes the better signature creation library which removes obvious «digital» artifacts from the lines applying the bezier transformation to smooth the lines, and better mobile UI to create the signature by drawing it on phone screen.

UPD: better signature creation was implemented in OakPdf:

At first glance, there is no much difference, but if you take a closer look, you might notice three improvements over previous version:

1. The most obvious one: optional blue pen color
2. Variable thickness of lines
3. Smoother curves, thanks to bezier curves interpolation algorithm

I think now, with these changes, OakPdf provides much better signature creation experience, and better result which is really close to physical «paper» signature.

UPD2: OakPdf got smarter with Signature Extractor feature!

Drawing your signature on a touchpad or with a mouse does not always work well and the result often does not look like «your real signature», honestly. OakPdf Signature Extractor feature can be used to quickly convert photo of your handwritten signature to a digital format: what it basically does is it gently removes the background from your handwritten signature photo, and then traces it to a vector format, so it can be scaled up or down without quality degradation, and can be easily placed on any document. This feels like magic!

Saving scanned photo

After Document scanning is processed click on save button to save the scanned photo. To discard scanned photo click on cross icon 'X'.

2. Как конвертировать PDF-файл в текстовый документ или изображение

С помощью ABBYY 15 конвертировать файлы можно в один из 11 редактируемых форматов (например, docx, txt, pptx), два нередактируемых (xps, djvu) или восемь форматов изображения, например png, jpg, bmp. Зайдите во вкладку «Открыть», далее выберите задачу «Конвертировать документы» и нужный формат. Можно конвертировать одновременно несколько файлов.

В появившемся окне можно выбрать качество конвертации изображений — от низкого до высокого — и вариант сохранения: от точной копии с картинками и вёрсткой до простого текста (сохраняется только деление на абзацы, текст выстраивается в один столбец).

3. Как превратить в PDF-файл изображение или скан-копию

Сделать это можно двумя способами в зависимости от типа конвертируемого документа.

Для файлов на цифровом носителе: зайдите во вкладку «Открыть», запустите задачу «Конвертировать в PDF». Затем в появившемся окне найдите один или несколько файлов для создания PDF-документа, выберите качество изображений и возможность поиска по документу: если нужно, чтобы был распознан текст, — «Как в исходном документе», если это неважно — «Поиск невозможен».

Для бумажных документов и фотографий: зайдите во вкладку «Сканировать» и запустите задачу «Сканировать в PDF». В появившемся окне выберите устройство — сканер или фотоаппарат — и настройте параметры сканирования (яркость и разрешение). Затем просмотрите получившийся скан, укажите желаемое качество изображения и при необходимости выберите опцию «Распознать текст»: тогда отсканированный файл можно будет редактировать. ABBYY 15 распознаёт даже сложные письменные знаки, например иероглифы и арабскую вязь.

4. Как сделать новый PDF-файл из нескольких старых

Если вы хотите выделить несколько страниц старого PDF-документа и создать из них новый, то откройте панель «Страницы», выберите нужные и в контекстном меню нажмите задачу «Создать PDF из выбранных страниц».

ABBYY FineReader 15 выпускается в трёх вариантах: Standard для домашнего использования, Business для небольших и средних компаний и Corporate для крупных. 5. Как добавить подпись

На панели инструментов выберите «Подпись», а затем один из трёх вариантов.

1. Цифровая. В диалоговом окне найдите нужный сертификат подлинности, укажите причину подписания и, в некоторых случаях, местоположение и контакты. Это единственный вариант подписи, защищающий документ и подтверждающий личность автора.
2. Текстовая. В диалоговом окне введите текст подписи, выберите стиль и нажмите кнопку «Сохранить». Позднее подпись можно будет отредактировать: «Подпись» → «Другая подпись» → «Редактировать подпись».
3. Изображение. В диалоговом окне щёлкните «Открыть» или «Вставить из буфера обмена». Выберите нужный файл. При необходимости измените размер и прозрачность фона. Нажмите кнопку «Сохранить».

Также с помощью ABBYY 15 можно проверить подлинность уже стоящих в документе цифровых подписей. Для этого щёлкните по ним правой кнопкой мыши и выберите пункт «Показать свойства подписи».

6. Как настроить совместное использование документа

В ABBYY 15 можно рецензировать документ: вносить редакторские правки и предложения, обсуждать детали и предлагать изменения.

Для указания на ошибки в тексте можно использовать инструменты редактирования: выделение, перечёркивание, вставка, подчёркивание. К каждой такой пометке можно добавить комментарий: он будет отображаться в правой части экрана.

Для рисованных правок используйте инструмент «Нарисовать»: им можно что-то подчеркнуть и зачеркнуть, а также обвести или добавить стрелку.

Чтобы оставить заметку для обсуждения, используйте инструмент «Заметка»: поместите её в нужной части документа и введите текст во всплывшем окне.

7. Как сравнить файлы

В ABBYY 15 можно сравнить несколько файлов одного или разных форматов, чтобы проверить, вносили ли правки и не были ли подделаны документы. Алгоритм программы определит количество вставок или удалений, которые нужно внести, чтобы сделать файлы одинаковыми, и сгруппирует их по типу исправлений.

Чтобы запустить сравнение, зайдите во вкладку «Новая задача», кликните «Сравнить», выберите нужные файлы, укажите язык документов и щёлкните «Найти различия».

8. Как защитить документ

В ABBYY 15 можно установить пароль на документ. Нажмите на панели инструментов кнопку «Защита паролем», выберите необходимый способ защиты, введите кодовое слово и нажмите «ОК». Программа попросит вас повторно ввести пароль для подтверждения.

Если вы ограничиваете доступ только к редактированию и отправке, то можете выбрать дополнительные опции, например разрешить или запретить копировать текст.

9. Как уменьшить размер PDF-файла

Эта функция особенно полезна, если в документе много иллюстраций и вкладок. Чтобы уменьшить его, зайдите во вкладку «Файл» и выберите команду «Уменьшить размер файла». В диалоговом окне укажите желаемое качество изображений или выберите опцию «Сжимать изображения с помощью MCR» — эта технология позволяет сжать иллюстрации без ущерба для их внешнего вида. Также нужно будет выбрать язык распознавания, чтобы текст корректно отображался в сжатом документе.

10. Как прикрепить к PDF-документу звук, видео или архив

Добавить к PDF-документу можно файл любого формата: текст, звук, фото, видео, архив. Для этого в левой части экрана кликните на кнопку со скрепкой или зайдите во вкладку «Вид», далее «Вложенные файлы».

11. Как заполнить интерактивную форму

Такой формат PDF-файлов обычно используется, чтобы облегчить заполнение анкет и опросов. Если в документе есть интерактивные поля, ABBYY 15 во время запуска покажет соответствующее сообщение и предложит их подсветить. Чтобы заполнить форму, щёлкните по необходимой строке и выберите один из предложенных вариантов.

Интерактивную форму можно создать самостоятельно. Для этого на верхней панели кликните на кнопку «Редактор форм», затем выберите один из семи типов форм, например «Список» или «Флажок». Разместите форму в нужное место на странице, закройте «Редактор форм» и сохраните документ.
