3DMark

24 июн. 2016 в 14:11
Something blocking 3DMark from opening full screen view, causing the test to then fail.
Most common ones to cause this would be things like USB-to-VGA adaptors with broken drivers, remote desktop tools (like TeamViewer) that are not DX11 compatible and any other applications that draw overlays.
If you need further help figuring this out, recommend opening a support ticket at http://www.futuremark.com/support and include screenshots of your task manager showing all running processes in your system.

3DMark Error
not sure if it will help your issue but it's suggested to NOT use the steam interface. find the CD key (right click the entry in your library) and use that after downloading and installing separately:
go to options and enter the CD key and you're good to go.
Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.

Compatibility Report
DX11 test (Firestrike) runs, unable to run DX12 test (Time Spy) as 3DMark shows «You are unable to run this test. To run this test you need a DirectX 12 compatible operating system.»
Tried using «winetricks —version win10» in Steam launch options, made no difference.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
to set Windows version to 10 after I started 3DMark once to have the wineprefix created.
Started using 64 bit shortcut in Steam, it starts the loading screen, the main screen flashes by, it keeps showing the loading screen indefinitely.
Attempts to set it back to Windows 7 renders the same result.
Had to reinstall 3DMark to get it back to work.
/steam-231350.log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/qzjnDJrRsz/
Edit: added log as file as I don’t know how long paste will remain.
3dmark_proton_log.txt
That is indeed Wine/Proton being incapable of something there. The log has fixme’s and other things going on there.
Tested under Proton 4.11-1 and changed Windows version to 10 by above winecfg method, same result.
Proton does not support direct3d 12 right now.
3DMark has multiple issues in proton 4.11-1 on top of direct 3D 12 not working:
- The default launch option does not work, so force 32-bit or force 64-bit must be selected to launch it.
- 3DMark Advanced thinks it is 3DMark Basic, so plenty of tests (including the Vulkan one) that are exclusive to 3DMark Advanced cannot be run.
- The SystemInfo component is completely broken, causing it to report unknown GPU, among other things.
- Test results complain about Time Measurement data being not available, which in conjunction with the system info issues, causes test results to be deemed invalid.
- PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 breaks all tests (they seem to crash), causing scores of 0. Even the direct3d 9 tests break with it, but work without it. Those are wined3d in either case, so the bug is not in wined3d. It is in how wined3d gets forced.
- The tests are broken on the Intel iGPU in the Xeon E3-1276v3 running Mesa 19.0.8 on Linux 5.1.18. Unlike the PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 case, the loading screen appears for both the demo and graphics tests, but it quits before rendering anything.
I found the cause of the issue preventing the Advanced Edition from working. It is a bug in the steam client where it is not doing what it does on Windows. I filed an issue in ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux for it:
Here are instructions on how to apply the workaround:
- Install 3DMark
- Edit the launch settings and PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS=1 %command% .
- Launch 3DMark (by forcing 32-bit or 64-bit because normal launches are broken)
- Exit 3DMark
- Execute /tmp/proton_$
/run regedit - Create the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Futuremark
- Create the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Futuremark\3DMark
- Create the string value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Futuremark\3DMark\KeyCode
- Set it to the CD key code from Steam.
- Exit regedit.
- Optionally, clear the launch settings.
- Start 3DMark and enjoy your Advanced Edition.
@ryao Thanks, that works. Alternatively it can be done in one line with protontricks:
@kisak-valve I am no longer able to get this working with a fresh prefix on proton 4.11-3. It worked on proton 4.11-2. I had to downgrade to proton 4.2-9 to be able to use it.
Hello @ryao, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game’s launch options, reproduce the regression, and drag and drop the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log into the comment box.
Disabling esync will prevent this from starting.
This is what happens when you start this (by forcing 32-bit or 64-bit) with esync disabled:
I have no launch issues for 3DMark on Proton 4.11.
The bench will only accept to launch D3D12 benches if he detects Windows 10 as OS. However, 3DMark will crash if the OS is set as as Windows10 for 3DMark.exe.
i can also confirm that the Advanced edition isn’t detected, and need the workaround from this comment.
The bench now can’t be launched if the prefix was created with Proton 5.0 (and when Proton 5.0 is used). There is definitively an issue with 3DMark when the OS reported is Windows 10.
A minor issue also: the splash screen will appear in a window with Proton 5.0.
EDIT: Log with Proton 5.0 (clean prefix): steam-223850.log
The splash screen issue is gone on newer version. The crash is still here however.
- Set it to the CD key code from Steam.
This is not possible as there is no CD key for 3DMark.
Edit: Huh. Weird af but after a couple of launches it now presents a key. Can confirm that this fix works and 3DMark reports as Advanced Edition now, on Proton 5.0-3
Following below step and occur «workload produced no results» and the result is incorrect. Have any missing?
Install 3DMark
Edit the launch settings and PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS=1 %command%.
Launch 3DMark (by forcing 32-bit or 64-bit because normal launches are broken)
Exit 3DMark
Execute /tmp/proton_$
Create the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Futuremark
Create the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Futuremark\3DMark
Create the string value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Futuremark\3DMark\KeyCode
Set it to the CD key code from Steam.
Exit regedit.
Start 3DMark Ice Storm and perform Custom Run.
Looks like 3DMark now works on prefix created after proton 5.0 with proton 5.0-7.
Unfortunately, I still can’t run D3D12 benchmarks because of the «You are unable to run this test. To run this test you need a DirectX 12 compatible operating system.», despite proton 5.0 advertising Windows 10 as OS.
So the 3DMark launcher is responsible for determining what OS features are available. The launcher is written in Java, and the JDK gets the OS version by reading the version resource entry from kernel32.dll:
If I do this in Wine, the launcher allows me to try to run the DirectX 12 benchmarks:
But the only DirectX 12 test I’ve been able to run so far is the API overhead test. I’m not sure what’s going on with the others yet, they just error immediately, and I haven’t gotten a good log file to dig into yet.
Time Spy spews this error into the 3DMark launcher UI:
Here’s some VKD3D_SHADER_DEBUG=trace output from vkd3d revision 1510680:
The «skip_dword_unknown» warnings seem suspect, but I haven’t been using vkd3d for anything else yet, so I don’t know what’s expected behavior in these logs.
Hello, nice find for Windows version detection.
I managed to run both d3d12 bench on Windows using vkd3d built from here, with dxgi.dll from the latest DXVK.
Timespy had very severe artifacts while NightRaid had some missing objects + freeze at CPU test.
The RC version of Proton have updated vkd3d so it might be worth to test if you can still apply the patch.
I am sorry for flogging a dead horse by necroing this thread, but with proton 5.13-4 (and previous 5.13-x), once i get the cd-key entered either by regedit or hacking the installscript.vdf and recreating the prefix, i only get a white window. It does however sais «Advanced Edition» on top.
If i do not do that, i can select menuitems and stuff (but ofc. getting the limitations of the Basic edition). I have no idea why this changes when i actually enabled Advanced Edition.

It makes no difference if i choose 32 or 64 bit.. or default on the startup option. I can also see the mousepointer change to a little «hand» when it is a menuitem under it, so i guess stuff IS there somehow, its just not possible to see what. Resizing/moving/minimizing++ to no avail.

I did this for now. And got the results I expected to get from the version I installed yesterday. It appears to be a working v2.0.1979 Basic Edition, with all the promised improvements. So if that’s what you want, I guess that’s the only way to get it now. for free. Or if all you want is a totally non-functional piece of shit promo for it download it from TPU. Why you would is beyond me. But apparently somebody thinks it’s a good idea. WTF ever.
EDIT: Oops. I lied. There’s no Ice Storm Unlimited. Just Ice Storm Extreme.

Tried a couple different servers. Tried a couple different computers. Tried 7zip. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Same thing every time. I’m in The Twilight Zone again. Lots of oddity going on here. Leaving this alone lest I make things worse for myself.
Sorry to bother you guys with it.
I’d also kinda like to know how/why my screen name shows up at the bottom of the page as an actively viewing user/member now when I’m not logged in(regardless of what device I’m currently using too). It’s like I can’t log out. But I can. supposedly(stay logged in not checked). As another WTF is going on example. But I dare not ask.

Not that I’m aware of. But I’ve installed several previous versions of free Basic Edition. I tried uninstalling the older version first before installing the version in the OP. Made no difference. But the Steam version installs and works perfectly.
This thread was probably a mistake though. I believe I’ve angered the gods again. I’d really feel better to call the case closed at this point. Like I said, I don’t want to make things worse. The Steam version works. And that’s just fine. I’d like that to stay as is. So I better just shut my mouth before they take that away from me too. And no, I’m not kidding. unfortunately.

In that case it should be as simple as unblocking it. But it doesn’t appear to be. Since I’d already tried that. And it didn’t work. I even tried downloading it again today and unblocking it again, thinking the issue in regards to the empty folder bit was only temporary(as discussed in your thread). Surprise surprise. no dice once more. So apparently not. Again, WTF ever. Workaround available. Yadda yadda yadda. Thanks for wasting copious amounts of my precious time. Not you if you’re wondering what I mean by that. Whoever it is that can’t get their head out of their ass and fix this fucking download so it functions correctly and stops causing all the headaches for us. Jesus fucking Christ. The dipshits at Steam seem to be able to handle it. How hard can it fucking be? IT’S NOT WORKING. PLEASE FIX IT OR TAKE IT DOWN. THANKS.
At least I don’t appear to have been infected with anything as a result of all this senselessness.

Oh hell no. I really did do that as soon as it was first suggested. And in the mean time since it updated itself to the latest version even. Wish I’d have done it sooner and skipped all this BS. That’s what I get for trusting TPU downloads. Which I actually still do. Since this is the only instance out of countless downloads where I’ve had any issues at all.
And yes, I broke my promise. So what? It ain’t the first time. Probably won’t be the last. Let me have it if you must. I am kidding this time though.

Noticed there was a new 3rd US(US-3) server up today. Tried that one and it finally worked.
The folder wasn’t empty at least this time. But I’m right back to the same issue with the previous version. Totally non-functional POS promo. See posts #1 and #5. Come on TPU. Get your friggen act together already for crying out loud. You’re starting to look really bad here. Don’t you think?
I’d pondered trying guru. Guess I’ll be jumping ship and doing that now. Why? Because I can. Mostly because I’ve never had to revert to a Steam demo for a free 3DMark product(all of which I’ve been using for well over a decade without issues, like every one there is). And I see no reason to be satisfied with that option now. That and having a bunch of shit that doesn’t need to be running in the background while benching is slightly counter-intuitive. Why not open a couple web browsers and defrag my disks while I’m at it?
EDIT: Same story from Guru. So SCREW YOU TOO 3DMARK. What’s the story with this bullshit all the sudden? Advertising one thing and giving me another? I oughta sue your asses.

I don’t know what or why. But it’s definitely not just 2 of us. I just tried installing it on my Vista PC and it does appear to work on that one. It even suggested the Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark for it on the opening page(onboard graphics currently). But even though that’s only showed up with one Basic Edition version yet, I tried running it and got an immediate error and it refuses to run it. "Workload produced no results" score 0. What workload? Damn thing won’t even run for a second. But Ice Storm Unlimited still does not even show up on the benchmarks page with that install either(or any other so far, including the Steam demo). So that’s false advertising there period. So far as I know Ice Storm Unlimited does not actually exist. But of course you’re going to tell me that works fine for you too. right?
So, if it’s not some stupid Windows 10 thing, then I don’t know what it is. Because that’s pretty much the only relevant difference between the 2 PCs I’ve installed it on.
EDIT: The problem, as it turns out, with my Vista PC is lack of appropriate screen resolution to run the test. 1600×1200 don’t cut it.

Yeah, it works fine for me, but I have several fully paid-for "Advanced Version" copies (used in nearly every review I’ve ever done here, so I have access to both W1zzard’s copy and my own personal copies). So I can only talk about paid-for versions, since the registration info is left behind.
What I’m talking about working, though, is the downloads from our servers here on TPU. You mentioned you had issues unpacking, both from here and from Guru3D, and since we downloaded from the same sources, and mine works but yours does not, I suggest looking for the problem elsewhere in your system.
AFAIK, you only get to run 1 test on the free version.
I do test in Windows 10 exclusively these days. Posted both a motherboard and memory review in the past two weeks, respectively. I’m sorry that that doesn’t really help you any, but I can say that I’ve installed both times for those reviews on a fresh install, and just because of this thread I downloaded and installed both the .1979 and the more recent version.
