How do I force VMware virtual machine to enter the BIOS setup
I am using VMware Fusion 2.0.6. I want to boot virtual machine from iso file. How do I get into bios and change boot options?

To force the machine to enter the BIOS setup once (but continue booting normally on subsequent start-ups), add bios.forceSetupOnce = «TRUE» to VM’s .vmx file.
Alternatively, quickly press F2 while booting. To make this easier, set bios.bootDelay = «xxxx» in the .vmx file, where xxxx is the number of milliseconds during which the VM will wait for the F2 signal.
The process varies when using vSphere for VMWare vCenter, which is a far more common scenario in Enterprise environments.
- Right-click the VM in the Navigator pane (or use the Actions menu at the top of the primary pane) and choose Edit Settings. .
- Click the VM Options tab at the top.
- Expand the Boot Options twirl-down menu on the left.
- Locate the Force BIOS setup option (alternatively, it may be called Force EFI setup ).
NOTE: If your boot device and virtual hardware configuration support it, changing the Firmware setting from BIOS to EFI (requires powering-off the VM first) is advantageous in that it allows for one-time boot device selection, whereas BIOS does not; with the BIOS firmware, it’s necessary to re-order the boot devices and save the changes, which is in no way ideal because if you forget to disconnect the drive or unmount the media, the VM could boot into the BIOS the next time it restarts unexpectedly, leaving a production machine unreachable until someone intervenes.
(Even though the Asker is using Fusion, this Question’s visibility is such that solutions for other VMWare implementations seem appropriate.)

How to open and use BIOS in VMware Workstation
If you are using VMware Workstation to create a virtual machine and you want to access BIOS settings, then this post will show you how to do it. With the help of these steps, you will be able to access the BIOS in VMware Workstation to make various changes.
Open and use BIOS in VMware Workstation
There are two methods using which you can use to access BIOS in VMware Workstation’s virtual machine.
1: Use a keyboard shortcut
Like a regular Windows computer, you have a keyboard shortcut to open the BIOS settings. Right after turning on the virtual machine, you need to press F2. It should show a message, and if you can successfully click the F2 button at the right time, it will open the BIOS.
However, this screen passes very fast, and that is why it is quite difficult to click the F2 key at the correct time.
If so, you can increase the VMware boot loading time. For that, navigate to this path-
You need to enter your correct username and right virtual machine name.
Alternatively, you can go to Document folder > Virtual Machines > Your virtual machine name.
In this folder, you should find a VMware virtual machine configuration file that has .vmx extension. It should be your-virtual-machine-name.vmx. You need to open this file with Notepad or any other text editor and enter the following line right after .encoding = “windows-1252”:
Here X represents the time in milliseconds. That means if you enter 5000, it will be delayed by 5 seconds.
Now, restart your virtual machine. You should find that screen displayed for 5 seconds.
2: Use in-built options
There is an option that allows you to boot your virtual machine into BIOS settings. For that, right-click on your virtual machine name > Power > Power On to Firmware.
Select this option, and you will find your BIOS screen displayed.
From there, this is possible to make various changes. For example, you can set a supervisor password; password-protect entire installation, etc.
Although it is very easy to open, you should know what you are doing before making any change. Otherwise, you will end up corrupting your guest OS.

Зачем входить в BIOS виртуальной машины?
Как правило, это требуется для того, чтобы указать приоритет загрузки, чтобы Вы могли в виртуальной машине загрузиться с какого-то устройства. Для того, чтобы попасть в BIOS виртуальной машины, необходимо при загрузке нажать кнопку F2. На обычных компьютерах в BIOS выполняется вход через клавишу «Del»
И в чём непосредственную проблема входа в BIOS? Как раз в том, что в виртуальной машине этот этап проходит настолько быстро, что вы просто не успеваете нажать на кнопку F2. Можно долго мучиться в попытках поймать этот момент, а можно просто увеличить время, требуемое для нажатия на кнопку входа в BIOS.
Как увеличить время входа в BIOS?
А всё делается довольно легко и просто.
Для того чтобы реализовать поставленную задачу нам необходимо знать, где на физическом диске располагается нужная виртуальная машина? Для этого заходим в «Параметры виртуальной машины \ Параметры \ Общие».
Здесь у нас есть папка «Рабочий каталог»
Копируем данный путь и вставляем в проводник Windows, чтобы попасть в папку с файлами, относящимися к данной виртуальной машине.
Здесь нам требуется файл конфигурации, который имеет расширение vmx. Далее нам необходимо открыть его в обычном текстовом блокноте.
Если по умолчанию у вас нет возможности открытия файла в текстовом блокноте, то выбираем выбрать «Другое приложение \ Ещё приложение \ Выбираем наш текстовый редактор».
Но, не забываем о том, что галочка всегда использовать это приложение для открытия vmx файлов не должна стоять. То есть открываться они должны VMWare Workstation, так как нам это нужно исключительно как разовая операция.
В результате чего, у нас открывается файл с различными параметрами виртуальной машины. Куда необходимо добавить строчку:
Если вам необходимо, чтобы 15 секунд отображалось меню загрузки. И не забываем про кавычки, так как без кавычек у вас данная команда не отработает.
Сохраняем данный файл и пробуем запустить нашу виртуальную машину. Как увидите всё отлично теперь у нас время для того чтобы успеть нажать на кнопку F2 намного больше, и мы это в любом случае успеем сделать.
А по нажатию на кнопки в F2 мы выполняем вход в долгожданный BIOS виртуальной машины и меняем приоритет загрузки устройств, если перед вами стаяла именно эта задача.
Как войти в BIOS виртуальной машины VMWare
Для того, чтобы попасть в BIOS виртуальной машины VMWare Workstation, надо нажать клавишу F2 при ее загрузке. В принципе, на этом статью можно бы и закончить, если бы не одна деталь.
Дело в том, экран загрузки появляется лишь на доли секунды и успеть за это время нажать F2 крайне сложно, поэтому попасть в BIOS можно раза с десятого, и то если повезет.
Проблему эту можно решить либо путем долгих и упорных тренировок �� либо просто увеличив задержку при загрузке ВМ. Для увеличения задержки необходимо найти файл конфигурации виртуальной машины (файл .vmx), открыть его на редактирование в блокноте и добавить строку с необходимой задержкой. Например:
Задержка указывается в миллисекундах, т.е. 5000 — это 5 секунд. Этого времени вполне хватит, чтобы успеть нажать нужную клавишу.
